Policy and Advocacy
Health councils see advocacy as part of the work that they do because they are uniquely positioned to provide both an "on the ground view" of how policies affect their community and because they understand the bigger picture of connecting services and shaping responses to needs. Knowing how to approach local and state government, and decision makers to have a positive effect on legislation and decisions that affect communities is a skill that is developed over time.
The Alliance invited Pam Roy, Executive Director of Farm to Table, to do a presentation on advocacy at its annual meeting on January 31, 2017. Here is the presentation, Getting From Why to How and here is the accompanying slide presentation called Making a Difference by Ruth Hoffman of the Lutheran Advocacy Ministry-NM.
